Overview

Adipose-derived regenerative cells (ADRCs) are a heterogeneous population of cells obtained from the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) of adipose tissue [1]. This population includes multipotent adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), endothelial progenitor cells, pericytes, fibroblasts, and various immune cells [2]. ADRCs function primarily through paracrine mechanisms, secreting a wide array of pro-angiogenic, anti-apoptotic, and immunomodulatory cytokines that facilitate tissue repair [3]. They also possess the potential to differentiate into multiple mesenchymal lineages, including bone, cartilage, and fat, depending on the local microenvironment [4]. Clinically, ADRCs are investigated for their therapeutic potential in treating ischemic conditions, chronic wounds, and musculoskeletal disorders like osteoarthritis [5]. As a cell-based therapy rather than a molecular drug target, ADRCs are typically prepared and delivered as a point-of-care treatment during a single surgical procedure, and they do not interact with drugs in a traditional receptor-ligand manner [6].

Mechanism of action

ADRCs promote tissue regeneration through paracrine secretion of growth factors and cytokines, immunomodulation of the local environment, and multi-lineage differentiation into mesenchymal tissues.
