Overview

Adipose-secreted signaling protein (ADISSP) is a secreted adipokine, primarily expressed in brown adipose tissue (BAT) and beige adipocytes, and it plays a crucial role in the regulation of white adipose tissue (WAT) thermogenesis and glucose homeostasis[1][5][6]. Its secretion is stimulated by β3-adrenergic activation, and it acts by binding a putative receptor at the adipocyte surface, promoting PKA pathway activation independently of β-adrenergic signaling[1]. Functional studies in mice reveal that ADISSP is necessary for efficient WAT browning, protecting against diet-induced obesity and hyperglycemia. Physiologically, it acts as a bioactive mediator in adipose tissue function and metabolic health. This makes it a promising candidate for therapeutic development targeting obesity and type 2 diabetes, potentially with reduced off-target safety risks due to its restricted expression profile[1][2][3][5][6].
