ADK antisense RNA 1 (ADK-AS1) is a natural antisense long non-coding RNA transcript that is transcribed in the opposite direction to the ADK gene. Members of the NAT family, such as ADK-AS1, regulate gene expression through a range of mechanisms, including modulation of sense transcript stability, alteration of alternative splicing, guiding chromatin modification, or participating in RNA-RNA duplex formation. Many NATs play roles in both physiological and pathological processes, with altered expression observed in diseases such as cancer. However, ADK-AS1 itself currently lacks extensive functional validation or clinical association in the published literature[3][1]. There are no approved drugs or known experimental compounds directly targeting ADK-AS1, though antisense oligonucleotide technologies offer general methods for inhibiting natural antisense transcripts[2][3].
