ADNP2

Overview

ADNP homeobox 2 (ADNP2) is a transcription factor belonging to the homeobox and zinc finger protein families, widely expressed with particularly high levels in the brain during development and adulthood. It is predicted to regulate gene transcription via RNA polymerase II specificity and may play key roles in nervous system development, neuronal survival, and stress response, especially in protecting against oxidative stress. ADNP2 expression imbalances are documented in neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions, and altered expression levels may contribute to disease progression in disorders including schizophrenia and autism, possibly via effects on autophagy and anti-apoptotic signaling. Peripheral ADNP2 mRNA levels are being explored as biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease. At present, there is no direct evidence that ADNP2 is a therapeutic target for pharmacological intervention, nor are there known drugs targeting this molecule.
