ADP-ribosylation factor-like GTPase 13A (ARL13A) is a small GTPase of the ARF-like family involved in cellular processes related to ciliogenesis and cytoskeletal interactions. It shares protein sequence and domain structure similarity with ARL13B and participates in microtubule binding, ciliary membrane association, and is broadly expressed during early cellular development and division, especially in craniofacial tissues. Although ARL13A and ARL13B have overlapping localization, ARL13A does not compensate for ARL13B loss in retinal tissue. Disease associations in humans are not yet well established for ARL13A alone, but paralogs have been implicated in well-known ciliopathies such as Joubert syndrome. No drugs, biomarker roles, or clinical safety considerations are reported at present[1][3][5].
