Overview

ADP-ribosylation factor-like protein 5B (ARL5B) is a small GTPase of the ARF-like (ARL) family and is structurally related to the well-known ADP-ribosylation factors (ARFs), belonging to the Ras superfamily of regulatory GTPases[3][10]. It localizes primarily to the trans-Golgi network, where it binds and exchanges GTP and GDP, and is involved in regulating retrograde transport from endosomes to the trans-Golgi and the distribution of key membrane cargo proteins[1][2][4]. Studies suggest ARL5B may also play a role in cell survival and metabolic processes such as apoptosis and glycolysis in some cancer cell types[9]. However, there are currently no known drugs targeting ARL5B and its function is primarily characterized by its involvement in vesicle-mediated intracellular transport rather than as a pharmacological target[3][10].
