Overview

ADP-ribosylation factor-like protein 5C (ARL5C) is a member of the Arf-like subfamily of small GTPases in the Ras superfamily. ARL5C is predicted to have GTP binding and GTPase activity and is implicated in critical cellular processes such as intracellular protein transport, protein localization to the Golgi membrane, and vesicle-mediated trafficking, particularly between endosomes and the Golgi apparatus. It plays a role in recruiting the Golgi-associated retrograde protein (GARP) complex to maintain Golgi structure and function. Although ARL5C is less well characterized than other family members, loss of ARL5C function leads to disruptions in Golgi integrity and endosome function. There is currently no evidence directly supporting a role for ARL5C as a therapeutic target, nor are any drug interactions or roles in specific diseases currently established.
