Adrenal cortex stimulation refers to the activation of the adrenal cortex, a key part of the adrenal gland responsible for producing steroid hormones such as glucocorticoids (e.g., cortisol), mineralocorticoids (e.g., aldosterone), and androgens. This process is primarily regulated by hormonal signals originating from the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. ACTH is the primary stimulant, binding to MC2R and initiating downstream signaling cascades that lead to steroid hormone synthesis. Angiotensin II and potassium also stimulate aldosterone secretion. Hormone production is tightly regulated by negative feedback mechanisms.
