The adrenergic alpha 2B receptor (α2B-adrenoceptor) is a G protein-coupled receptor and one of three highly homologous subtypes in the alpha-2 adrenergic receptor family. It is found predominantly on vascular smooth muscle but also in kidney, brain, and spinal cord tissues. Activation leads to vasoconstriction and inhibition of neurotransmitter release. A deletion variant lacking three glutamic acids is associated with decreased phosphorylation/desensitization, reduced basal metabolic rate, and altered emotional memory.
