Target intelligence / Profile preview

Adrenergic alpha 2C receptor (α2C adrenoceptor)

Target
α2C adrenoceptor
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), Rhodopsin-like GPCR family, Receptor
01

Overview

The Adrenergic alpha 2C receptor (α2C adrenoceptor or ADRA2C) is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. It regulates neurotransmitter release, insulin secretion, MAPK cascade, smooth muscle contraction, and vasoconstriction. It inhibits adenylate cyclase via Gi/o proteins. Located in the CNS and periphery, it plays a role in presynaptic inhibition and responds to catecholamines like norepinephrine and dopamine.
