Overview

The AGE-RAGE signaling pathway centers on the interaction between advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and their primary cell surface receptor, RAGE (Receptor for Advanced Glycation End Products). AGEs are heterogeneous compounds formed through non-enzymatic reactions between reducing sugars and proteins, lipids, or nucleic acids—a process accelerated in hyperglycemia and aging. The binding of AGEs to RAGE initiates a cascade of intracellular signaling events that drive inflammation, oxidative stress, cellular dysfunction, and tissue damage.
