Overview

Afferent signaling is the physiological process by which sensory information is transmitted from peripheral tissues and organs toward the central nervous system (CNS) [1]. This process involves the activation of specialized sensory receptors on afferent nerve fibers, such as the vagus nerve or spinal nerves, in response to mechanical, chemical, or thermal stimuli [2].
