The p30 protein is a key structural and functional component of the African swine fever virus (ASFV). It is encoded by the CP204L gene and has an approximate molecular weight of 30 kDa. It is one of the most abundantly expressed viral proteins early during infection and plays multiple roles in viral replication, host cell interaction, and immune response. p30 facilitates internalization of ASFV into host cells. The protein interacts with several host cellular proteins involved in endocytosis, actin cytoskeleton regulation, and innate immunity, including DAB2, RPSA, OAS1, PARP9, CAPG, ARPC5, VBP1, and hnRNP-K. Due to its conservation across strains and strong immunogenicity, it is a prime target for both serological tests and antigen-capture assays used for surveillance or diagnosis purposes.
Antibodies targeting p30 can inhibit ASFV internalization into host cells.
