AGBL4 antisense RNA 1 (AGBL4-AS1) is a long noncoding antisense RNA gene, transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the protein-coding AGBL4 gene. Antisense RNAs in general can regulate the expression of their sense counterparts by altering transcription, chromatin states, or RNA stability, and frequently have roles in epigenetic regulation and gene silencing. There is currently little direct evidence in published research linking AGBL4-AS1 itself to specific biological functions, diseases, or drug responses. Most information on the broader class of antisense lncRNAs suggests possible, but not confirmed, involvement in gene regulatory networks and epigenetic modification, including disease contexts such as cancer. There are no known drugs or therapies currently targeting AGBL4-AS1, nor has it been established as a biomarker.
