Agouti-Related Protein (AgRP)

Target
AgRP
Molecular classification
Neuropeptide, Signaling molecule
01

Overview

Agouti-related protein (AgRP) is a neuropeptide primarily produced in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus. It acts as an endogenous antagonist of melanocortin receptors MC3R and MC4R, stimulating appetite and reducing energy expenditure. It plays a central role in regulating energy balance, food intake, and body weight. Dysregulation of AgRP is linked to obesity and metabolic disorders.
