Overview

Airway epithelial receptors are a diverse set of receptors expressed on the surface of airway epithelial cells (AECs). These receptors play a critical role in sensing environmental stimuli, pathogens, and mediating immune responses in the respiratory tract. They are essential for maintaining lung homeostasis and defending against respiratory diseases. These include TLRs, NOD-like receptors, PARs, purinergic receptors, cytokine/growth factor receptors, hormone/nuclear hormone receptors and viral entry factors.
