The airway lining primarily refers to the epithelial cells that form a barrier along the respiratory tract. Modulation of this lining involves altering its structure, function, or signaling properties to impact airway health and disease states such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cystic fibrosis.
