Target intelligence / Profile preview
Alanine- and arginine-rich domain-containing protein (AARD) is a protein-coding gene highly expressed in a tissue- and stage-specific manner, especially in Sertoli cells within developing and adult testis, where its expression is directly regulated by the androgen receptor and induced by testosterone. Its transcript profile and regulation suggest a role in testicular differentiation, maintenance of male reproductive function, and spermatogenesis, though the precise biochemical function is not fully characterized. The encoded protein does not belong to any major molecular family (receptors, enzymes, etc.) currently recognized as typical drug targets. There is no evidence to suggest that AARD is directly therapeutically actionable or that it serves as a useful biomarker in human disease
Not applicable (no drugs known to interact directly)
