Aldehyde dehydrogenase 7 family member A1 pseudogene 3 (ALDH7A1P3)

Target
ALDH7A1P3
Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 7 family member A1 pseudogene 3 (ALDH7A1P3) is a human pseudogene, a non-functional genomic DNA sequence similar to the functional aldehyde dehydrogenase 7 family member A1 (ALDH7A1) gene. It does not encode a functional protein and therefore does not exhibit enzymatic activity attributed to aldehyde dehydrogenase enzymes, which are involved in the detoxification of aldehydes and metabolic processes. Pseudogenes like ALDH7A1P3 generally arise from duplication or retrotransposition events of a parent gene but accumulate mutations that render them nonfunctional. There is currently no evidence that ALDH7A1P3 is expressed or has a functional, disease, or therapeutic role.
