Aldehyde dehydrogenase 7 family member A1 pseudogene 4 (ALDH7A1P4) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, located on chromosome 14 at position 63,212,187-63,214,026 and is a retrocopy of the functional parent gene ALDH7A1[1][3][7][8]. Pseudogenes are non-functional segments of genomic DNA derived from functional genes, and ALDH7A1P4 does not produce a functional protein nor carry out enzymatic activity[3][4][7][8]. As it is not expressed and does not encode a working protein, ALDH7A1P4 is not considered a drug target or therapeutic receptor/enzyme; it is relevant primarily for genomic mapping and evolutionary studies of gene duplication events in the aldehyde dehydrogenase superfamily[4][7][8].
