Overview

Aldehyde oxidase 3, pseudogene (AOX3P) is an unprocessed unitary pseudogene present in the human genome, where it lies adjacent to AOX2P on the chromosome and sometimes exhibits readthrough transcription. Unlike functional aldehyde oxidase enzymes (such as AOX1 or, in some species, AOX3), AOX3P does not encode a protein and is not considered a molecular target for therapeutic intervention. Although AOX3 and related aldehyde oxidase enzymes metabolize a broad range of substrates and are important in drug metabolism in rodents, the human AOX3 gene is pseudogenized, meaning it does not produce a functional enzyme and has no direct biological or pharmacological relevance. No drugs, diseases, or molecular functions are specifically associated with AOX3P, and it should not be considered a therapeutic target[2][3][5]. If you require information about functional aldehyde oxidases (such as AOX1) or their roles in drug metabolism, these would be legitimate enzyme targets in certain species[1], but AOX3P is not one of them in humans.
