Allergen-specific IgE-mediated Immune Response (IgE-mediated Allergy)

Target
IgE-mediated Allergy
Molecular classification
Immune Response, Hypersensitivity Reaction
01

Overview

The allergen-specific IgE-mediated immune response is a type of hypersensitivity reaction characterized by the production of IgE antibodies specific to an allergen. Upon re-exposure, these IgE antibodies bind to FcεRI receptors on mast cells and basophils, triggering degranulation and the release of inflammatory mediators, leading to acute allergic symptoms. Key cell types involved include Th2 lymphocytes, Tfh cells, mast cells, and basophils. Regulation involves Tregs and modulation of IgE glycosylation. Therapeutic interventions include allergen-specific immunotherapy and anti-IgE monoclonal antibodies.

Mechanism of action

IgE binding to FcεRI on mast cells and basophils, leading to degranulation upon allergen cross-linking. Targeting IgE directly, blocking histamine receptors, or suppressing the immune system can alleviate symptoms.
