Target intelligence / Profile preview

Allergen-Specific Immunoglobulin E (Allergen-Specific IgE)

Target
Allergen-Specific IgE
Molecular classification
Immunoglobulin, Antibody, IgE
01

Overview

Allergen-specific IgE antibodies are produced by B cells in response to allergen exposure. These antibodies bind to FcεRI receptors on mast cells and basophils. Upon re-exposure to the allergen, crosslinking of IgE on these cells triggers degranulation and the release of inflammatory mediators, leading to allergic symptoms. Allergen-specific IgE is the central mediator of Type I hypersensitivity reactions.
