Allergen-specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies are key mediators of type I hypersensitivity reactions, primarily involved in allergic diseases. They bind to allergens and trigger mast cell and basophil degranulation, releasing histamine and other mediators responsible for allergic symptoms. Measurement of allergen-specific IgE is crucial for diagnosing allergies, and therapeutic strategies target IgE to reduce allergic responses.
Anti-IgE therapies prevent IgE binding to Fc receptors on effector cells, reducing allergic responses. Allergen immunotherapy aims to induce competing antibodies (IgG/IgA) or modulate the immune response.
