Allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) is a therapeutic approach that aims to modify the immune system's response to specific allergens, leading to reduced allergic symptoms and disease progression. It involves the controlled administration of increasing doses of allergens to induce tolerance through various mechanisms including early desensitization of mast cells and basophils, induction of regulatory T cells (Tregs), and a shift in B cell responses from IgE to IgG4 production.
