Overview

Allergen-specific T cells are a specialized subset of T lymphocytes within the immune system that recognize and respond to specific environmental allergens. These cells play a central role in both the development and regulation of allergic diseases. In healthy individuals, allergen-specific regulatory T cells dominate, suppressing excessive immune activation. In allergic individuals, there is an increased frequency of allergen-specific Th2-type CD4+ T cells that drive IgE production and promote eosinophilic inflammation. Understanding allergen-specific T cell biology underpins allergy diagnostics and immunotherapeutic strategies aiming to restore tolerance.
