Overview

The term "Allergenics" generically refers to proteins, often from environmental or food sources, that can provoke allergic immune responses in susceptible individuals, commonly via IgE-mediated mechanisms[1][5][7][3]. This is not a single molecule or receptor, but a diverse collection of proteins with variable molecular structures and sources that share the property of inducing hypersensitivity reactions in humans. Allergenic proteins are structurally diverse and belong to various protein families[2][4][5][7]. Their allergenic properties are not strictly determined by molecular type but often by shared structural, stability, and immunogenicity features, such as the presence of specific IgE-binding epitopes[3][4]. No universal or canonical abbreviation is used for this concept. Scientific resources and allergen databases (e.g., SDAP) catalog individual allergens, not a universal "allergenic" molecule[5][6]. Allergy therapies generally do not target a conserved "allergenic" receptor or class; instead, they target immune mediators, such as IgE or histamine receptors, or modify immune responses as a whole. Therefore, "Allergenics" should not be classified as a valid molecular target for structured drug discovery or pharmacological annotation.
