Overview

Allogeneic human keratinocytes are donor-derived cells from the epidermal layer of the skin, primarily used as a living therapeutic agent in regenerative medicine and wound care. They are not a traditional molecular target like a receptor or enzyme; instead, they function as a complex biological system that secretes a variety of growth factors, cytokines, and extracellular matrix proteins. These secreted factors, including Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) and various interleukins, interact with the patient's own cells to stimulate re-epithelialization, angiogenesis, and tissue remodeling. Clinically, they are employed in products designed to treat severe burns, chronic venous ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers, where they provide a temporary biological cover and a potent stimulus for healing. While these allogeneic cells typically do not persist permanently in the host, their transient presence is sufficient to trigger the body's endogenous repair mechanisms. The use of allogeneic cells allows for off-the-shelf availability, which is a significant advantage over autologous therapies in emergency burn care.

Mechanism of action
