Alpha 2-Plasmin Inhibitor (α2-PI)

Target
α2-PI
Molecular classification
Serine Protease Inhibitor, Serpin
01

Overview

Alpha 2-plasmin inhibitor (α2-antiplasmin, α2-PI, plasmin inhibitor, or SERPINF2) is a critical serine protease inhibitor (serpin) that plays a fundamental role in regulating fibrinolysis and maintaining hemostatic balance. It serves as the primary, fast-acting inhibitor of plasmin, accounting for approximately 90% of plasmin inhibition in vivo. It inactivates plasmin through several mechanisms and contributes to clot stability. It has emerged as a potential therapeutic target for various thrombotic and vascular disorders.
