The adrenergic alpha–2C receptor (ADRA2C) is a G protein-coupled receptor involved in regulating neurotransmitter release from sympathetic nerves and central nervous system adrenergic neurons. It modulates smooth muscle contraction, vasoconstriction, and insulin secretion. Agonists targeting this receptor are used clinically for their sedative, analgesic, and muscle relaxant properties. Dysregulation may be implicated in cardiovascular diseases or neuropsychiatric disorders.
