Target intelligence / Profile preview

Alpha-glucosidase II (GII)

Target
GII
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Glycosyl hydrolase 31 family
01

Overview

Alpha-glucosidase II (GII) is a heterodimeric enzyme located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) that plays a critical role in glycoprotein processing and maturation. It catalyzes the removal of two α1-3-linked glucose residues from N-linked oligosaccharides, which is essential for proper protein folding, stability, and trafficking. GII consists of a catalytic alpha subunit (GIIα) and a regulatory beta subunit (GIIβ). Inhibition of GII is being explored as a therapeutic strategy for various diseases, including viral infections, cancer, and diabetes.
