Alpha particle radiation consists of particles made up of two protons and two neutrons bound together, identical to the nucleus of a helium-4 atom. Alpha particles are emitted during the radioactive decay (alpha decay) of heavy elements. While they have low penetration power externally, they pose a significant hazard if inhaled, ingested, or enter the body through wounds due to their high ionization capability and localized energy deposition within tissues.
