Target intelligence / Profile preview
Tocopherols (vitamin E) are a class of lipid-soluble compounds with antioxidant activity. They protect cell membranes from oxidative damage by scavenging lipid peroxyl radicals. The isoforms α-, β-, γ-, and δ-tocopherol exhibit varying degrees of antioxidant potency, with α-tocopherol generally considered the most effective. Tocopherols' antioxidant activity is influenced by factors such as pH and the presence of other antioxidants.
Chain-breaking antioxidant; donates hydrogen to lipid peroxyl radicals, terminating lipid peroxidation.
