Target intelligence / Profile preview
The alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7 nAChR) is a homopentameric ligand-gated ion channel highly permeable to calcium ions. It plays critical roles in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues, mediating fast synaptic transmission, regulating neurotransmitter release, and influencing cognitive processes. It is also involved in modulating inflammatory responses and angiogenesis. The α7 nAChR is a therapeutic target for several conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, and inflammatory disorders.
Agonist-induced activation leading to increased Ca²⁺ influx and downstream signaling.
