Target intelligence / Profile preview
The alternative complement pathway is one of the three main pathways of the complement system, a crucial component of innate immunity. Unlike the classical and lectin pathways, it does not require antibodies or specific recognition molecules to initiate activation. Instead, it is triggered by spontaneous hydrolysis ("tickover") of complement protein C3 or by direct binding of C3b to pathogen surfaces or foreign materials.
