M2 Macrophage (M2)

Target
M2
Molecular classification
Immune cell, Myeloid cell
01

Overview

M2 macrophages are a subset of macrophages characterized by their anti-inflammatory, tissue repair, and immunoregulatory functions. They promote ECM production, angiogenesis, and clearance of apoptotic cells, and secrete anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-10 and TGF-β. They are involved in wound healing, tissue remodeling, resolution of inflammation, and immune regulation. While generally considered beneficial, dysregulated activity can contribute to pathological conditions.
