Aminoacylase 3 (ACY3) is a zinc-dependent enzyme classified as a hydrolase, predominantly involved in the deacetylation of mercapturic acids within the kidney proximal tubules and the metabolism of N-acetyl-aromatic amino acids. It is encoded by the ACY3 gene and is expressed in various tissues, including the kidney, liver, and the brain. ACY3 plays a role in metabolic detoxification processes associated with phase I and phase II drug metabolism pathways. Dysregulation or mutations in ACY3 have been linked to disease states such as hepatitis C virus infection and Canavan disease.
