Target intelligence / Profile preview

Aminoimidazole Carboxamide Ribonucleotide Transformylase (AICART)

Target
AICART
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Transferase
01

Overview

AICART is a key enzyme in the de novo purine biosynthesis pathway, catalyzing the transfer of a formyl group from 10-formyltetrahydrofolate to AICAR. This reaction is essential for generating IMP. In humans, AICART activity resides within the bifunctional enzyme ATIC. Inhibition of AICART has therapeutic implications in cancer chemotherapy and anti-inflammatory therapy.

Other names
AICAR transformylaseaminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide formyltransferaseATASEATIC (when referring to the bifunctional enzyme with IMP cyclohydrolase activity)
