The aminomethyltransferase pseudogene (ENSG00000248401, LOC391674) is a nonfunctional DNA sequence homologous to the protein-coding aminomethyltransferase (AMT) gene. While the functional AMT gene encodes an enzyme involved in glycine cleavage and central nervous system function[1][3], the pseudogene version does not produce an active enzyme or participate directly in metabolism. Like other pseudogenes, it may play a regulatory role in gene expression through the generation of RNA molecules that can interact with the transcriptome, for example, by acting as microRNA decoys or participating in small interfering RNA pathways, but no such function has been specifically described for LOC391674[4][5][6][7]. The majority of pseudogenes are biologically inert, and there is no evidence that the aminomethyltransferase pseudogene serves as a therapeutic target or is implicated in disease[6][7].
