Overview

AMN1 antisense RNA 1 (AMN1-AS1; AC023157.3) is a long non-coding antisense RNA transcribed from the opposite DNA strand at the AMN1 gene locus. Like other natural antisense transcripts (NATs), AMN1-AS1 is assumed to play a role in the regulation of gene expression at the AMN1 sense gene, likely through cis-acting mechanisms including transcriptional interference and/or modulation of RNA stability or chromatin structure. There is no evidence that AMN1-AS1 encodes a protein, acts as a receptor, enzyme, or typical therapeutic target class. There are currently no known drugs, clinical biomarkers, or established disease associations tied specifically to AMN1-AS1[3].

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression, likely through mechanisms common to antisense lncRNAs such as transcriptional interference, RNA stability modulation, chromatin modification, and possibly epigenetic regulation[1][2][6]
03

Disease associations

There is no direct evidence linking AMN1-AS1 to a major disease, but by analogy to other antisense lncRNAs, potential disease associations (such as in cancer or imprinting disorders) are possible but unconfirmed for this specific locus[4]
