Target intelligence / Profile preview

AMP-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit alpha (AMPK)

Target
AMPK
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine/threonine kinase
01

Overview

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a central regulator of cellular and whole-body energy homeostasis in eukaryotes. It acts as a metabolic sensor, activated by increased AMP/ADP levels relative to ATP, which typically occurs during energy stress or high ATP consumption. AMPK activation shifts metabolism from anabolic (energy-consuming) to catabolic (energy-generating) pathways, helping restore cellular energy balance.
