Overview

Amphiregulin (AREG) is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family of proteins. Synthesized as a transmembrane glycoprotein, its extracellular domain is cleaved to release a mature, soluble form that acts as a ligand for the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR). AREG stimulates the proliferation of various cell types, including keratinocytes, epithelial cells, and fibroblasts. It plays a crucial role in mammary gland development, tissue repair, and immunoregulation. Elevated AREG expression has been implicated in cancer progression and tumor immune evasion.
