Amyloid beta deposits (Aβ)

Target
Molecular classification
Peptide, Protein aggregate
01

Overview

Amyloid beta (Aβ) refers to peptides of 36–43 amino acids that are the principal component of amyloid plaques found in the brains of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. These deposits are considered a hallmark pathological feature of Alzheimer’s disease, contributing to neuronal dysfunction and cognitive decline. Aβ exists in various aggregation states, from soluble monomers to neurotoxic oligomers and insoluble fibrils within plaques. Therapeutic strategies aim to reduce Aβ production, promote its clearance, or prevent its aggregation.
