Amyloid-beta Oligomer (AβO)

Target
AβO
Molecular classification
Peptide Aggregate
01

Overview

Amyloid-beta oligomers (AβOs) are soluble, aggregated forms of the amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptide, which is 38–43 amino acids in length. These oligomers are considered key neurotoxic species implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), distinct from both Aβ monomers and insoluble fibrils found in amyloid plaques. Their toxicity stems from both direct membrane disruption and aberrant signaling via multiple cell-surface receptors. Structural heterogeneity complicates therapeutic targeting but also offers opportunities for selective antibody development.
