Amyloid beta (Aβ) peptide oligomers are soluble aggregates of Aβ peptides, typically 36-43 amino acids long, derived from the amyloid precursor protein (APP). These oligomers are highly neurotoxic and are considered central to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease due to their ability to disrupt cellular function, interfere with neuronal signaling pathways, induce cellular stress responses, and promote neurodegeneration. They interact with multiple receptors, triggering both clearance mechanisms and inflammatory pathways. Therapeutic strategies aim to modulate aggregation, neutralize toxicity, and enhance clearance.
