Amyloid beta-protein 42 is a peptide consisting of 42 amino acids derived from the proteolytic cleavage of the amyloid precursor protein (APP). It is one of the main components found in extracellular amyloid plaques characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease. Compared to its shorter counterpart, Aβ40, Aβ(1–42) has a higher propensity to aggregate into oligomers and fibrils due to its more structured C-terminal region. These aggregates are neurotoxic and play a central role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease by disrupting neuronal function and triggering neuroinflammation. The process by which soluble monomeric forms transition into toxic oligomers and insoluble fibrils is a key therapeutic target for drug development aimed at modifying or halting Alzheimer's progression[4][5][7].
