Overview

Analgesic activity" refers to the ability of a drug or intervention to relieve pain. Analgesia can be produced by many different classes of drugs, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, opioids that activate opioid receptors, as well as other classes that act on specific ion channels, G protein-coupled receptors, or neurotransmitter systems[1][2][3][4][5][6]. The term does not specify a particular molecule, target, or protein, but rather a therapeutic outcome or effect. For this reason, "Analgesic activity" does not qualify as a unique molecular target or receptor.
