The anatomical posterior chamber of the eye is a narrow, ring-shaped space located behind the peripheral part of the iris and in front of the lens and its suspensory ligaments (StatPearls, 2023). It is a critical physiological compartment filled with aqueous humor, which is secreted into this space by the ciliary processes of the ciliary body (American Academy of Ophthalmology, 2023). The fluid flows from the posterior chamber through the pupil into the anterior chamber, providing essential nutrients to the avascular lens and corneal endothelium while maintaining the eye's internal pressure (National Eye Institute, 2023). While the chamber itself is an anatomical region and not a molecular target, it contains the tissues and receptors that are the primary focus of ophthalmic pharmacology, particularly for the treatment of glaucoma. Pathological conditions such as pupillary block can obstruct the flow of fluid from the posterior chamber, leading to a rapid increase in intraocular pressure and acute angle-closure glaucoma (PubMed, 2022).
