Overview

Androgen receptor negatively regulated long non-coding RNA (ARNILA) is a long non-coding RNA that is downregulated by androgen receptor activity and plays a significant role in promoting epithelial-mesenchymal transition, invasion, and metastasis in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC)[1][2][4][5][6]. ARNILA functions as a competing endogenous RNA that binds miR-204, thereby facilitating SOX4 expression—a transcription factor driving EMT and cancer progression. High ARNILA expression correlates with poor progression-free survival in TNBC patients and may serve as a prognostic biomarker[1][2]. ARNILA is under investigation as a potential therapeutic target in aggressive breast cancer subtypes[1][3].

Mechanism of action

Acts as a sponge for miR-204, enabling increased expression of SOX4, which induces EMT and metastasis in TNBC. Negative regulation by androgen receptor signaling.

Safety considerations

No direct safety concerns reported. Therapeutic targeting would require consideration of effects on cellular RNA regulatory networks.
