Angiogenesis

Molecular classification
Process
01

Overview

Angiogenesis is the physiological process by which new blood vessels form from pre-existing vessels. This process is essential for normal growth, development, wound healing, and tissue regeneration. However, it also plays a critical role in various diseases, including cancer, where tumors stimulate angiogenesis to secure a blood supply. Targeting angiogenesis has become an important therapeutic strategy, particularly in cancer therapy, with angiogenesis inhibitors used to starve tumors.

02

Mechanism of action

Angiogenesis inhibitors block the formation of new blood vessels, depriving tumors of nutrients and oxygen.

03

Biological functions

05

Safety considerations

Inhibition of normal angiogenesis, leading to impaired wound healing or other physiological processes.
